I’m starting on a new adventure, as you can see. I’ve not done this before, so we’ll see how it goes.
I’ve been out of residency now for 17 years, and things sure have changed. I remember being in college and seeing the kids in the computer lab chatting with others online, while I didn’t even have email yet! Now that I’ve got a kid who’s out on her own in the job force as a young adult and two boys in middle school, I figure I’ll dive into blogging pool and we’ll all go from there.
I’m a pediatrician who practiced for 11 years in North Carolina in a wonderful community. I loved my patients and friends there: they all welcomed me even though –as a Midwesterner in the South—I had to learn a few things. Boogers and goobers were synonymous in Nebraska….but NOT in North Carolina! I had more than a couple kids give me some funny looks until one of the Newborn Nursery Nurses flat-out laughed at me and informed me that “goober” meant “penis” in their neck of the woods. Needless to say, I didn’t tell the kindergartners that I saw goobers in their noses anymore after that.
After some time, as my parents (and my kids) got older, we moved home to Nebraska in 2013 to be by my side of the family. That’s been an adjustment over the last few years: trying to build up a new practice in a city that is saturated with pediatric options in this age of social media marketing has been a quite an experience. I’ll be posting here to share information about kids, parenting, breastfeeding and other health topics. I’ll also have some guest appearances from my friend and co-worker Nicholle Bruhn, PNP, IBCLC. Follow along with us as we venture out in the blogging world!
