About MeI grew up in Bellwood, Nebraska, in a hard working, close-knit, farming family with two sisters and one brother. I knew that I wanted to be a doctor since the eighth grade. My parents were wonderful role models in their commitment to giving the best care to us children and were very encouraging of my aspirations as a future physician. I attended Chadron State College from 1992-1995 as part of the Rural Health Opportunities Program. In 1995, I was accepted to medical school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. I was convinced that being a family practice doctor was the right direction for me but that changed while I was doing a month long externship near a Navajo reservation in Arizona during my fourth year of medical school. It was then I realized I wanted to do pediatrics. One thing that unites us all, despite any differences in politics, religions or customs, is wanting the best for our children. Their health, happiness, well-being, comfort, security – that is what matters to all of us. They are humanity’s most precious treasure. Taking care of adults is a consensual, incredibly humbling and intimate connection based on trust. But, being a child’s doctor takes that relationship to a whole new, sacred level. |
After graduating from medical school in 1999, I completed my pediatric residency in Pensacola, Florida where I met my husband. Initially, we moved to North Carolina where I worked in a private pediatric clinic for 11 years. However, I tremendously missed my extended family so we moved back to Nebraska. I joined Omaha Childrens Clinic in 2015 and feel extremely blessed to be surrounded by amazing colleagues, staff, and patients at this wonderful clinic.
As a mother of three, I understand the stress of caring for a newborn while struggling with hormones and fatigue. I also understand that every child is unique. Just as they change at every stage of their development, you as a parent change with them. I work with parents to come up with creative solutions to make sure that both children’s and parent’s needs are met and, I don’t let any question go unanswered. I feel I have a responsibility to you as your child’s doctor as well as a fellow parent. I want the best for your child and for you.
When I’m not in the office I enjoy reading, trying to cook healthy foods that my kids will eat (which is a new challenge every day!) and spending time outside with my family and two dogs.
